History of Operation Muskie

The idea for Operation Muskie grew out of internet conversations between Dick Pearson and SSG Bret Wold, who at the time, was serving in Iraq. Dick had donated some of his DVD's to the troops overseas and was interested in helping in other ways as well. Bret was just the guy to run with this and in a short time they learned that they enjoy Muskie fishing, became friends, and Dick offered to take Bret fishing on Lake of the Woods when he returned from Iraq. When Dick contacted Frank Walsh of Walsh's Bay Store Camp to inquire about cabin availability, this outing idea was born. Frank and Laura Walsh graciously offered free lodging and the use of their entire resort, Doug Johnson and his wife offered their help as soon as they heard about it, and off we went.

Bay Store Camp has a capacity of 30 people. With a ratio of one guide to every two participants, it was clear 20 Veterans could be accomodated. SSG Wold was charged with the recruiting and selecting these 20 Veterans, pretty much on a first come, first serve basis, with the only requirement being overseas service presently or in the recent past. The 20 Veteran participants have been determined and are anxiously awaiting this outing.
